Families are leaving the public school to search for better options...
The public schools have been dropping in enrollment steadily while private schools have been increasing steadily. While a population shift is the by far the largest cause of the drop in public school enrollment we need to consider why we are losing 'customers'. Some believe that this is because we don't offer enough 'features' in the public school system and that we need to offer more programs of choice. While this is certainly one factor and we need to look at a diversity of programs, we need to be careful that we do not ignore other possible causes. I believe that we all need to strive to continuously improve the quality of our already good existing programs. The district has already taken good steps in this direction but what can be done to adapt best practices from other industries to drive this improvement cycle? A key element here is to make it easier for all the people in the district to be creative, productive and to enjoy their work. As a Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence, I will bring significant experience in this area to the board and make my skills available to all within the district.
