FSAs & System Wide Assessments:
As part of my commitment to bring people together to create a better school system in North Vancouver District, I believe the time has come to tackle this topic. And I’ve heard a similar desire for change from many of the concerned parents and educators I’ve spoken with over the past months.
There is a wise saying in the quality management profession that “you cannot improve something you do not measure.” Assessment of our public education system is fundamentally important – indeed, it our duty to continuously measure and improve the school system for our kids’ sake.
That said, I think many people involved in education agree that the existing FSA test system is not working. I propose a new method of assessment that looks at the whole system, bottom-up, and has buy-in from everyone involved.
I believe that it is the responsibility of the school district to find a way of measuring and improving our schools which works for our own community here in North Van. And that’s a challenge I welcome. I’m committed to making our kids’ education better. I also have years of experience in quality management within many industries – including education and engineering. My certification as a Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence will help me develop a new and improved system of assessment for our schools system – the first step towards the world-class schooling you want for your children, and I want for mine.
